The house

A little corner of the mountains in Les Arceaux

Where the streets juggle first names — Raoul, Georges, Hippolyte, Gustave — an old stone dining room has been filled with the scent of raclette and fondue since 1979.

1979 — The old stone dining room

L’Assiette aux Fromages opened its doors on rue Gustave, in the Arceaux quarter, a stone’s throw from the market and the aqueduct. Exposed stone, dark beams, big tables dressed in cloth and tall wooden chairs: the décor hasn’t changed, and that’s exactly as it should be.

1985 — Michel

On the 1st of January 1985, Michel Ferreux, born in Franche-Comté, took over the house. Forty years on, he is still the one who welcomes you, between the dining room and the kitchen, with the cured meats and cheeses of his home region: Comté, the smoked specialities of the Haut-Doubs, Cancoillotte, Morteau sausages.

Today

Montpellier locals come here as regulars; visitors could swear they were in Franche-Comté. People come for the fondue and the raclette, and come back for the welcome — and for the chocolate fondue that brings the big shared tables to a close.

For cheese lovers, and not just them…

“I invite you to discover the artisanal cheese and charcuterie specialities of my home region, for which I confess a soft spot: Comté, smoked cured meats, Cancoillotte, Morteau sausages.

Lovers of raclette and of Savoyard fondues, with porcini or black trumpet mushrooms, are in for a treat. As for everyone else, they are not forgotten: fondue bourguignonne, magret de canard, the butcher’s cut, brasérade, or the fondue vigneronne, with red wine and spices.

Save a little room for dessert… Yes indeed, a chocolate fondue!”

Michel Ferreux

“A little corner of the mountains in the Arceaux quarter […] The old stone dining room soon fills with the scent of raclette and Savoyard fondue. A friendly welcome and service from a patron as attentive as he is busy. An address Montpellier locals find transporting, and with good reason.”
